Original. Saucy. Chicly diverse.

What began as a micro business based out of apartment living room, has grown beyond paper into a lifestyle brand, celebrating the every day joys and milestones of multicultural individuals, their families with inspired cards, invitations, party goods, home decor and gifts.

Behind our brand

“Why is the company called sweet potato paper; are your products made out of actual sweet potatoes?” This is certainly an FAQ for us; and while our products are not made from sweet potatoes, it is a key factor behind the brand.

My grandmother, Alice Morehead (pictured, in the front right), loved parties and get-togethers. Whether she was a guest or a hostess, my grandmother made sure that along with good music and good times… her sweet potato pie was on the menu. To my grandmother, gatherings and celebrations were an important foundation for families (and friends) to have.

She knew that celebrating as a group gave a sense of belonging and love, which she felt was key. From birthdays to funerals, there was no end to the gatherings my grandmother hosted, floral arrangements and handwritten notes she delivered, or where her fresh baked pie showed up.

Like my grandmother, I believe that regardless of who we are, where we came from or what we have done, acknowledging milestones with those we love is essential—more than selfies or social media likes. The interactions we share with one another, our connection with tangible items (like invitations, silly party hats, or photo-books) activate our senses and emphasizes the importance of community.

I hope that our products bring a smile and warmth to numerous milestones, events, joys, and celebrations—just as Alice Morehead did with her sweet potato pie.

Our Manifesto

These are our words to live by. They’re showcased in our products, brand and core values.

WE BELIEVE that there is more to life than what’s on your phone.

WE BELIEVE that being social means being social.

WE BELIEVE that the truly exciting times of life go down in person and not “the DM.”

WE BELIEVE that you can get a lot further with a handwritten note vs a text message.WE BELIEVE that all parties are not created equal.

WE BELIEVE that multicultural products can be both chicly designed, trend forward and relevant.

WE BELIEVE all four senses are needed to truly celebrate life. Touch – to feel an invitation or card. Sight – to see friends & fam in person. Sound – to hear music & laughter. Taste – to eat a celebratory brunch, lunch or dinner
